In 1917 an American, Marshall Burns Lloyd, patented a special loom that could weave twisted craft paper into a woven fabric partly reinforced with steel wire.

This woven fabric became known as Lloyd Loom and it revolutionised an area of the furniture industry. The British rights were sold to W Lusty & sons of London in 1921 and by the 1930’s Lusty Lloyd Loom furniture could be found in many hotels, restaurants and tea rooms, as well as aboard cruise ships and ocean liners.
